Saying goodbye to 2010

06:17:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Don`t drink too much :-P
It’s that time of the year...again apparently, as we have to say "Bye, bye birdie made in 2010" and "Welcome 2011!" Well it is impetuously necessary to move forward you know?! :-))

I know that my bloggers colleagues have shared with you their thoughts on what happened during this year (snooker related) or what it’s going to be like in the near future, so I’m not going to do the same, mostly because they’ve done a terrific job.
For me 2010 started when "Snooker, my love" was first launched into "space" so I could say it was a good year, although it has had its ups and downs...I think it’s the right way to put it , no? "Has had" as in "it’s not over yet". English still has some unsolved mysteries for me :-))) Oh wel,l more English lessons for next year, right guys? :-))

Anyway, so here are my thoughts for all of you, but firstly I want to say something about snooker...It is "my love" after all isn’t it? :-P
I hope the following year will bring more tournaments for snooker, more televised or live broadcasted snooker for the fans, more players eager to compete, more great minds with good intentions for this lovely sport, more ways of making snooker popular, more common sense and honesty, a better treatment in the media for snooker (and I do mean real papers and not tabloids which exploit news in such a dirty way) and of course more heart and soul because, in my opinion, that’s what makes the difference.

If 2010 wasn’t your year, then may 2011 be the one were all your wishes shall come true and if 2010 was good to you, then I wish you an even more greater 2011 because...well...we need good stuff in our lives.

A new beginning is always good for the body and spirit, so bring on 2011 and let us have a very prosperous, happy, filled with joy and snookerish year!
Happy New Year my dears! :-)

P.S. Don’t forget to make a wish at midnight! ;-)

Haidi pa 2010!

06:16:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Dupa cum imi e obiceiul, in final ma vad in postura de a va ura de bine pentru nou an :-)) insa cu voia mariilor voastre am sa incep cu snooker-ul, doar e "dragostea mea", nu? :-))

Iar pentru voi dragii mei cititori, daca 2010 nu a fost prea amabil, atunci va doresc ca 2011 sa spele tote relele cauzate de predecesorul sau, iar daca cumva v-a mers bine, atunci fie ca anul viitor sa va mearga si mai bine...in fond aveam nevoie de lucruri bune in viata noastra, nu-i asa? :-P

Snooker in January 2011

02:19:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

The last days of this year will soon vanish into the past and another year (hopefully better for snooker and for all of us) will take its place. For snooker 2010 was on one hand a very dramatic year, but on the other hand it has represented a fresh start - the "Snooker Revolution" started by Barry Hearn and his gang of brainiacs from World Snooker has given this sport that lost sparkle and it has made it more interesting in the eyes of the public. With new tournaments and new ways of dealing with problems and certain situations, this "new game order" has brought both panic and applause from the players, media and fans. Still, in the end we all now that it was all done for the good of snooker. ;-)

But if you think that 2010 was a pretty crazy year, let me tell you that you are soooo wrong, for there are so many new tournaments and so many "twisted" ideas of reviving the snooker in the following year, which I’m sure, will keep you busy the whole bottom to the top :-P

Snooker in Ianuarie 2011

02:18:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

A Christmas thought

02:09:00 Ramona Dragomir 2 Comments

Yep, it’s Christmas all right! Snow it’s practically everywhere and many of us were pretty upset about that subject because our flights have been delayed or canceled , we’ve got stuck in the snow, haven’t been able to go to work...oh, wait a minute...that’s actually a good thing, isn’t it? :-)) Kidding!

Since Christmas is the time of giving, I wish to give you my sincere and deepest thanks for following my blog throughout the last five months. It’s been great fun and a privilege to write about snooker and to write lines that are read from every corner of this crazy world! So thank you for taking the time to give a glance to my dearest "Snooker, my love".

I hope this Christmas finds you with your dear ones and that this beautiful holyday brings you joy, peace and hope. Take your time in breathing this fresh air... you might just find a bit of magic in all those simple things that you pass on by every day ;-)

Merry Christmas everyone! God bless you! :-)

110sport’s Luca Brecel has been voted Belgium’s ‘Most Promising Talent’ by the country's press.
The 15-year-old scooped the award at a ceremony held in Ostend. Brecel has enjoyed a fantastic year in which he won both the European and Belgian Championship.

“It is a big surprise as snooker is not a big sport in Belgium,” said Luca’s father Carlo, who spoke on behalf of his son after the ceremony.
"This is a unique achievement for our sport and we are very moved.”

In winning the award Brecel follows talents such as Anderlecht striker Romelu Lukaku and tennis star Kim Clijsters who triumphed in 2010 and 1998 respectively.

German Masters (the qualifying rounds) - the last day

04:59:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

"I`m walking on sunshine wohooo...I`m walking on ...."
After four days of intense snooker, the Snooker Academy from Sheffield closes its doors for a well deserved break. With the winter holidays just around the corner and the last 16 players ready to set their feet into next year’s German Masters, things are falling into place.
Yesterday marked the last day of competition and as always the last day was also the hardest one; a lot of surprises as players who performed really well lost their final battle.

At the end of the day, the last Thai standing was (of course) people’s champion, the boy with an impossible name to pronounce, give it up for "Double T" the man to be - Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon (sure it would have been funnier if I was screaming, but you’ll just have to use your imagination for that :-P). He defeated Barry Hawkins 5-2 to make it to Berlin and smell the ham :-P

"Double T" - the man to be!
A very good performance was also registered by the youngster Jack Lisowski, who won over EPTC 3 event winner Marcus Campbell 5-3, but also for Nigel Bong who succeeded in defeating a pretty amazing Chinese - Liang Wenbo, by 5-2.

Dominic Dale secured himself a place into the tournament as he eliminated Gerard Greene by a 5-3 result and Stephen Lee proved his good form yet once again as he won 5-2 over Matthew Selt.
Not such a good day for "The Nugget" Steve Davis as he was practically whitewashed by Ryan Day 5-0, as well as Martin Gould who was sent home by Joe Swail by the same scoreline. Surprisingly, the man who stopped "The Rocket" to take off, last week during the UK Championship, Stuart Bingham lost 1-5 to Anthony Hamilton.

Below, we can check the final list of players who will delight the German audience in February.

Stuart Bingham 1 - 5 Anthony Hamilton
Barry Hawkins 2 - 5 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon
Marcus Campbell 3 - 5 Jack Lisowski
Ken Doherty 4 - 5 Liu Song
Liang Wenbo 2 - 5 Nigel Bond
Judd Trump 5 - 3 Jimmy Robertson
Andrew Higginson 5 - 2 Tony Drago
Matthew Stevens 5 - 3 Simon Bedford
Tom Ford 2 - 5 Anthony McGill
Gerard Greene 3 - 5 Dominic Dale
Joe Perry 5 - 3 Alan McManus
Stephen Lee 5 - 2 Matthew Selt
Ryan Day 5 - 0 Steve Davis
Martin Gould 0 - 5 Joe Swail
Marco Fu 5 - 3 Dave Harold
Mark Davis 4 - 5 Robert Milkins

So this is basically it, my dears! This last event also means that snooker is taking some free time to celebrate Christmas and the New Year ( "he" is a pretty strong individual! :-P), but don’t you worry because the snooker news are always flying by so keep an eye on this blog for the latest. ;-)

German Masters (etapa de calificare) - ultima zi

04:58:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

"I`m walking on sunshine wohoo...I`m walking on..."

Stuart Bingham 1 - 5 Anthony Hamilton
Barry Hawkins 2 - 5 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon
Marcus Campbell 3 - 5 Jack Lisowski
Ken Doherty 4 - 5 Liu Song
Liang Wenbo 2 - 5 Nigel Bond
Judd Trump 5 - 3 Jimmy Robertson
Andrew Higginson 5 - 2 Tony Drago
Matthew Stevens 5 - 3 Simon Bedford
Tom Ford 2 - 5 Anthony McGill
Gerard Greene 3 - 5 Dominic Dale
Joe Perry 5 - 3 Alan McManus
Stephen Lee 5 - 2 Matthew Selt
Ryan Day 5 - 0 Steve Davis
Martin Gould 0 - 5 Joe Swail
Marco Fu 5 - 3 Dave Harold
Mark Davis 4 - 5 Robert Milkins

German Masters (the qualifying rounds) - Day 3

05:52:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Alan McManus ends Joyce`s run
Round two was completed yesterday as 16 more players found their way though the third and last round, due to take place today, in Sheffield. The awful weather was against snooker apparently, as Ian McCulloch was unable to make in on time and play against Tony Drago. It seems like the poor guy was stranded in this horrible weather and was forced to drive back home. Unfortunately that meant that he lost the opportunity to qualify further in the competition but also that Tony Drago got a bye to the last round.

The Thai Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon continued his series of winning by hammering 5-1 Alfie Burden in a match that he clearly dominated, Jimmy Robertson brew away poor Jimmy White by the same scoreline and Dominic Dale defeated China’s Xiao Guodong 5-3.

A very good day for the legend Steve Davis, as he secured himself a place into the last round after wining 5-2 over Matt Couch but also for Liu Song who defeated Jamie Burnett in a very tight battle ended on a 5-4 scoreline.
After a beautiful performance, Mark Joyce was sent home by Alan McManus with a determined 5-3 final result, while Dave Harold was continuing his wonderful run and wining 5-2 over Adrian Gunnell.

Here are the complete results for yesterday’s matches:

Anthony Hamilton 5 - 1 Adam Wicheard

German Masters (etapa de calificare) - Ziua 3

05:52:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Anthony Hamilton 5 - 1 Adam Wicheard
Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 5 - 1 Alfie Burden
Mike Dunn 3 - 5 Jack Lisowski
Jamie Burnett 4 - 5 Liu Song
Kyren Wilson 2 - 5 Nigel Bond
Jimmy White 1 - 5 Jimmy Robertson
Tony Drago w/d Ian McCulloch
Simon Bedford 5 - 2 Andy Hicks
Jamie O'Neill 1 - 5 Anthony McGill
Xiao Guodong 3 - 5 Dominic Dale
Mark Joyce 3 - 5 Alan McManus
Matthew Selt 5 - 3 David Gilbert
Matt Couch 2 - 5 Steve Davis
Joe Delaney 2 - 5 Joe Swail
Dave Harold 5 - 2 Adrian Gunnell
Robert Milkins 5 - 3 Jamie Jones

Mult noroc tuturor! :-)

German Masters (the qualifying rounds) - Day 2

04:44:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Mark Joyce continues his great run
It’s been quite an exciting day here in Sheffield as one more group of snooker players have disputed their place into the next round. We had 18 matches that also meant 18 players who got the bye to the second round of this year’s German Masters qualifying.

Unlike the first day, yesterday we had only two tight battles, first being the one between the PTC 6 event winner, Dominic Dale and the Irish David Morris (5-4 in favor of Vienna’s resident) and the one between Robert Milkins and Jimmy Michie (5-4 in favor of the first).
Alan McManus succeeded in booking himself a place into the next round by crashing Jak Jones 5-0, the mighty strategist Dave Harold sent Dermot McGlinchey home by the same result and Adrian Gunnell whitewashed the Thai Noppon Saengkham. Also a very good result was registered by Jamie Jones who eliminated a very tough competitor from the tournament, the Chinese Liu Chuang by a 5-2 scoreline.

Needless to say that Michael Judge and Stuart Pettman were missed, as both of them withdrew from the tournament, but I can’t help of noticing the really good form Mark Joys is in, as he continues his series of winnings by defeating Andrew Pagett 5-1. Well done for this year’s UK Championship quarter-finalist!

Below is the complete list of scores for yesterday’s matches:

Joe Jogia 1 - 5 Jamie O'Neill
Anthony McGill 5 - 2 Michael White
Stuart Pettman w/d Xiao Guodong
Dominic Dale 5 - 4 David Morris
Mark Joyce 5 - 1 Andrew Pagett
Alan McManus 5 - 0 Jak Jones
Matthew Selt 5 - 3 Ben Woollaston
Michael Holt 3 - 5 David Gilbert
Rory McLeod 3 - 5 Matthew Couch
Steve Davis w/d Michael Judge
Peter Lines 2 - 5 Joe Delaney
Joe Swail 5 - 1 Justin Astley
Dave Harold 5 - 0 Dermot McGlinchey
Adrian Gunnell 5 - 0 Noppon Saengkham
Robert Milkins 5 - 4 Jimmy Michie
Jamie Jones 5 - 2 Liu Chuang

And here’s today’s list of matches. Fingers crossed people, as this is the penultimate day of the qualifying rounds and the players need your support! ;-)

From 10:00 am (UK time)
Anthony Hamilton v. Adam Wicheard
Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon v. Alfie Burden

German Masters (etapa de calificare) - Ziua 2

04:44:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Insa iata si lista completa a rezultatelor inregistrate ieri:

Joe Jogia 1 - 5 Jamie O'Neill
Anthony McGill 5 - 2 Michael White
Stuart Pettman w/d Xiao Guodong
Dominic Dale 5 - 4 David Morris
Mark Joyce 5 - 1 Andrew Pagett
Alan McManus 5 - 0 Jak Jones
Matthew Selt 5 - 3 Ben Woollaston
Michael Holt 3 - 5 David Gilbert
Rory McLeod 3 - 5 Matthew Couch
Steve Davis w/d Michael Judge
Peter Lines 2 - 5 Joe Delaney
Joe Swail 5 - 1 Justin Astley
Dave Harold 5 - 0 Dermot McGlinchey
Adrian Gunnell 5 - 0 Noppon Saengkham
Robert Milkins 5 - 4 Jimmy Michie
Jamie Jones 5 - 2 Liu Chuang

Anthony Hamilton vs. Adam Wicheard
Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon vs. Alfie Burden
Mike Dunn vs. Jack Lisowski

German Masters (the qualifying rounds) - Day 1

05:37:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

After all that live snooker brought to you so kindly by the BBC and the EuroSport programmes, it is time to get used with the good old live scoring system, provided by the World Snooker web-site. And since we are talking about their web-site, do me a favor and pay them a visit as they have new clothes :-P. A brand new re-designed web-site that promises to keep you in touch with snooker and everything that relates to the subject. It still has some little problems, but I won’t worry if I were you, as I think it is only normal when you have a change of look to also feel a bit disoriented :-))

But back to business people, as the German Masters qualifying rounds have kicked off yesterday morning in the beautiful and multifunctional Snooker Academy from Sheffield. The tournament is a new one, although there were several attempts in the past to make this a regular event; from 1995 until 1997 the tournament (back then it was called German Open and it was a ranking one) was staged in Berlin with the likes of John Higgins and Ronnie O`Sullivan being the winners (John had two titles, Ronnie only one). In 1998, the tournament changed its name into German Masters but it wasn’t a ranking event anymore and the champion was John Parrott, who defeated Mark Williams by a 6-4 scoreline.
Now, the tournament is back for good with a brand new format and it means serious business. ;-) It will be held in the German capital of Berlin, in February next year, 2-6 of the month to be more precise.

Jimmy is ready to start potting those balls
The first day of the qualifying rounds was a very intense one, as the "best of nine" rule always makes players fight more and obtain better results. We had four matches that ended on a decider: the one between Anthony Hamilton and Kurt Maflin (5-4 in favor of the first), the one between this year’s Shanghai Masters runner-up Jamie Burnett and the Thai James Wattana (5-4 in favor of Jamie), the one between the PTC 4 winner, Barry Pinches and Kyren Wilson (5-4 in favor of the second) and the one between the legendary Tony Drago and Kuldesh Johan (5-4 in favor of "The Tornado").

After that awful match played against Stephen Hendry last week, "The Whirlwind" Jimmy White seems to be back on track as he hammered Liam Highfield 5-2 to make it into the next round , where he’ll meet his namesake Jimmy Robertson, who defeated the Brazilian star Igor Figueiredo by the same result. This will be interesting to watch - two Jimmys in action :-))
A great response from the Thai Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon, who crashed Patrick Wallace 5-0, but also from Nigel Bond who eliminated the only female competitor, Reanne Evans, by the same score.

And here is the complete list of scores for yesterday’s matches:

Anthony Hamilton 5 - 4 Kurt Maflin
Fergal O'Brien 2 - 5 Adam Wicheard
Patrick Wallace 0 - 5 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon
Alfie Burden 5 - 2 Zhang Anda
Mike Dunn - bye
Jack Lisowski 5 - 2 James McBain
Jamie Burnett 5 - 4 James Wattana
Bjorn Haneveer 3 - 5 Liu Song
Barry Pinches 4 - 5 Kyren Wilson
Nigel Bond 5 - 0 Reanne Evans
Jimmy White 5 - 2 Liam Highfield
Jimmy Robertson 5 - 2 Igor Figueiredo
Tony Drago 5 - 4 Kuldesh Johal
Ian McCulloch 5 - 1 Issara Kachaiwong
Rod Lawler 2 – 5 Simon Bedford
Andy Hicks 5 - 1 Paul Davison

Today, yet another group of brave players will face their opponents in their way to the next round:

From 10.00 am (UK time)
Joe Jogia v. Jamie O'Neill
Anthony McGill v. Michael White
Stuart Pettman v. Xiao Guodong
Dominic Dale v. David Morris
Mark Joyce v. Andrew Pagett
Alan McManus v. Jak Jones

From 2.30 pm (UK time)
Matthew Selt v. Ben Woollaston
Michael Holt v. David Gilbert
Rory McLeod v. Matthew Couch
Steve Davis v. Michael Judge
Peter Lines v. Joe Delaney

From 7.00 pm (UK time)
Joe Swail v. Justin Astley
Dave Harold v. Dermot McGlinchey
Adrian Gunnell v. Noppon Saengkham
Robert Milkins v. Jimmy Michie
Jamie Jones v. Liu Chuang

See you tomorrow, snooker lovers! ;-)

German Masters (etapa de calificare) - Ziua 1

05:37:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

;-) Asadar, anul viitor in februarie in perioada 2-6, capitala Germaniei va fi gazda fericitului eveniment.

S-au inregistrat in total 4 meciuri ce s-au incheiat in frame decisiv: cel dintre englezul Anthony Hamilton si norvegianul Kurt Maflin ( 5-4 in favoarea primului numit), cel dintre finalistul din acest an al Shanghai Masters, Jamie Burnett si thailandezul James Wattana (5-4 in favoarea lui Jamie), cel dintre castigatorul PTC 4, Barry Pinches si Kyren Wilson (5-4 in favoarea secundului) si cel dintre legendarul Tony Drago si Kuldesh Johal (5-4 in favoarea "Tornadei").

Anthony Hamilton 5 - 4 Kurt Maflin
Fergal O'Brien 2 - 5 Adam Wicheard
Patrick Wallace 0 - 5 Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon
Alfie Burden 5 - 2 Zhang Anda
Mike Dunn - primit "bye" pentru runda urmatoare
Jack Lisowski 5 - 2 James McBain
Jamie Burnett 5 - 4 James Wattana
Bjorn Haneveer 3 - 5 Liu Song
Barry Pinches 4 - 5 Kyren Wilson
Nigel Bond 5 - 0 Reanne Evans
Jimmy White 5 - 2 Liam Highfield
Jimmy Robertson 5 - 2 Igor Figueiredo
Tony Drago 5 - 4 Kuldesh Johal
Ian McCulloch 5 - 1 Issara Kachaiwong
Rod Lawler 2 – 5 Simon Bedford
Andy Hicks 5 - 1 Paul Davison

Joe Jogia vs. Jamie O'Neill
Anthony McGill vs. Michael White
Stuart Pettman vs. Xiao Guodong
Dominic Dale vs. David Morri
Mark Joyce vs. Andrew Pagett
Alan McManus vs. Jak Jones

De la 16:30 (ora Romaniei)
Matthew Selt vs. Ben Woollaston
Michael Holt vs. David Gilbert
Rory McLeod vs. Matthew Couch

De la ora 21:00 (ora Romaniei)
Joe Swail vs. Justin Astle
Dave Harold vs. Dermot McGlinchey

Ne vedem maine pentru comentarii si rezultate! ;-)

Coaching United of Snooker

23:15:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Let`s coach the boys of snooker!
Snooker is less popular than it was in the `80s, that’s unfortunately a real fact, still there are so many people out there eager to compete in snooker tournaments, or to watch a snooker match, or to learn more about this sport. There are still many fans that are enjoying every minute of a snooker competition, who travel high and low to see their favorite players in action, who are supporting snooker day and night. There are still many youngsters who take interest in the sport of snooker, who dedicate their time to practice and to get better in playing this "gentlemen` sport".

If you want to succeed in life, you need to study hard...well, at least that’s what I’ve been told as a child...a situation that’s not 100% true nowadays, sadly. But in sports the process of studying it’s a must! You need to practice, you must practice, and you have to practice! :-))
It is said that when the pupil is ready the teacher appears...well, let’s say we do have some ready pupils out there in this world....so where are the teachers?

Last week, the WBPSA (World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association) headed by its chairman Mr. Jason Ferguson, announced a new coaching scheme that will be put together in partnership with the IBSF (International Billiards and Snooker Federation) and carefully managed by the six-time world champion, Steve Davis.
The main target? The players who need guidance and want to make it in the snooker business.

Steve "The Nugget" Davis said: "I've had many wonderful years in snooker and I feel as if it's time to put something back into the sport, and this coaching scheme is an ideal opportunity to do so. Snooker is rapidly becoming a truly global game with the popularity growing in Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and South America and it's time to capitalise on that by getting more young people involved. They are the Ronnie O'Sullivans and Stephen Hendrys of the future."

WPBSA and IBSF have team up for a better snooker

With 82 National Governing Bodies in the world, snooker will stand a chance to be known better and to bring more successful players in front. Coaching is a very important step in making it into the snooker industry and every person who wants to take this road must know will not be an easy one, but it will sure bring a lot of rewards along the way.

Jason Ferguson also declared the followings: "Our strategy is to increase the number of coaches at all levels globally and make them fully accessible to schools, clubs and community groups. The intention is to show the basics of our sport to young people and increase the numbers participating."

The IBSF President Pascal Guillaume added: "Since the IBSF Coaching Academy was formed in 2005, we have put many initiatives together - but none approach the importance of the agreement we announce today. To work hand in hand with the WPBSA, and Steve Davis, in this area will make it so much easier for the game to grow to its full potential - and for all our plans to come to fruition."

Without any doubt, the idea of putting together a new and improved coaching scheme is a wonderful one and if things go as planed I’m sure we sill see more and more talented players in the highlights. But let’s not forget that to be a coach is not a "piece of cake" and who has the courage to enter in such a "zone" must be well aware that is not enough to know the rules, but also to inspire the player.
A teacher is a person who inspires the pupil to learn rather than one who just teaches the lesson, that’s why it will be very important to see how the coaches will be selected. I know that with Steve Davis in charge of the situation things will blossom, for he has a very experienced eye on snooker and all that relates with this sport, but I think the biggest challenge will be to teach the teachers to teach, won’t you say so? :-P

Anyone interested in helping the growth of snooker by becoming a coach can contact WPBSA's Bristol office on 0117 317 8200.

Noul program de antrenament in snooker

23:13:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

UK Championship - The Final

John Higgins - the winner of the 2010 UK Championship
You know that song, from the film “Dirty Dancing" that starts with “Now, I’ve had the time of my life, no I never felt like this before...."? Well, something like that happened to me yesterday, while watching the 12bet.com UK Championship 2010 final! :-)) It was pure madness! So dramatic, so full of life, so entertaining, so breathtaking! And I would need more then one adjective to say how it really was! :-P
It was, without doubt one of the most incredible and spectacular final that I’ve ever seen! Two heavy names, two legends of snooker, two mighty knights in shiny armor had fought like dark angels for that trophy, but only one prevailed. And as you already know, that person was John Higgins, who now has four UK Championship trophies in his pocket....he must have some really big pockets, for those trophies are huge! :-)))

The madness started around 2:00 pm (UK time), when the players were introduced to the public and Ken Doherty and Dennis Taylor were the men in charge of commentating the first session. John "The Wizard of Wishaw" Higgins was going to take on Mark "The Welsh Potting Machine" Williams in what was going to be one of the most thrilling matches of the season!
Williams opened the match with an 83 break to take the first frame, but Higgins responded back in the next one with a 40 to make things tight. Breaks of 39 and 28 made Williams take the lead once more, but Higgins leveled up quickly enough in the following frame. But that’s how far things went for the Scot as he was unable to win any other frame in that first session. Logically, all the remaining ones were won by the Welshman, who was now leading 6-2! This had victory written all over it!

Higgins is potting his way through the victory
Good old Willie Thorne was taking over Ken Doherty, while Dennis Taylor was still "second-chair" in the commentary box, when the second session kicked off! And what a session that was! Pure madness, bottom to the top!
The first frame was kind of a scrappy one, but Mark succeeded in wining it with a 40 break, although the balls were all over the table and the pink and black were practically glued to the right cushion. Tremendous effort!
What followed was similar with "the return from the dead", for Higgins took over the next two frames, by firing in breaks of 91 and 94! He wasn’t going to make it any easier for Mark, who was now three frames ahead. But Mark wasn’t feeling safe at only three frames ahead, so he put his mind to work, well actually his cue :-P and won the next frame with a 70 break. The score was now: 8-4 in favor of the Welshman, who could enjoy the 20 minutes break and his cup of tea, while Higgins had a lot to think about.

After the break, Ken Doherty and John Virgo were now the commentators of the match and they were also going to be the ones who will scream the winner’s name, later on in the show.
"The Wizard of Wishaw" took over the13th frame with a marvelous 105 break as many of his fans were biting their nails and believe he will start a comeback with that frame in front. But it wasn’t anything like that...not yet, at least! ;-) After a cruel battle, Williams succeeded in wining the next frame, frame that was taking him at a 9-5 lead and just one step away from the victory! He was there, that’s how I though back then! He was going to win it; there was no doubt about it! Or maybe, I was wrong? Time was going to prove me so, as the Scot made that comeback, that remarkable comeback when no one was expecting him to do it. He won one frame after another with breaks of 45, 23, 30 and 75 to make it 9-7!

Mark Williams - the mighty runner-up
During the 17th frame, Williams made a beautiful 61 break, but missed the frame ball, that bloody and annoying red that was having its way with the players’ minds. So John came to the table for a 40 break. A battle of safety shots and snookers was in order as the score was 44-59 in favor of Mark’s. But the tension was high and some safety shots weren’t as good as they would have been when you haven’t had such a tremendous pressure over your shoulders, so John was able to pot the colors and stay in the match, as the score was reaching to 9-8.

Was this going to be the last frame? Or we were going to have a decider? Well, we were! Mark started to build himself a nice and hopefully winning break, but he missed the blue and stopped at only 18 points, so John came to the table for a 52 one, a break interrupted by missing a red. The Welsh was now in need of a snooker, so he snookered Higgins in the best possible way...John pots the cue ball, Mark has a tremendous kick and loses position and everything changes when John pots the red and wins the frame to make it 9-9!!!!

This was unbelievable! This was unbelievable! Williams was so close and yet so far away and now the victory was going to be decided on a last frame. The players shook hands and the frame started.
Williams made a 13 break, and then came the 66 hit by Higgins, as he had a massive kick and had to take on a difficult red, which by the way, was frame ball....Mark returned for a 30 break, the match being drawn to a safety shots battle as the score was 66-46, in favor of the Scot. With only the brown, the blue, pink and black on the table the boys snookered themselves a lot, when all of the sudden, I don’t know how it happened Higgins succeeded in potting the brown by playing a double! It was amazing! It was such an incredible shot! He punched the air as he took on the blue, the pink and....the victory!!! John Higgins was the champion! And he had done it in the best possible way! That brown says it all!

The BBC crew: John Parrott, Steve Davis and Hazel Irvine
Drawing the line it was such a blast this final! It had all the right elements to be a total success and it was pure entertainment bottom to the top! Both players were at their best and I feel so sorry that Mark Williams lost, for his game was a brilliant one. I was telling you the other day that if he keeps up his good form and maybe add some more to it, he will be favorite to win. Well, he did it! He played wonderfully but unfortunately the victory didn’t happen...but for me he is as much of a champion as Higgins is. They both deserved that trophy and for me both of them won it. :-)

John Higgins was clearly over the moon with his new victory, almost tearful when he said he wants to give his thanks to his dad, who’s at home. It was a victory that he deserved, as he played wonderful! Top class snooker all the way! Can’t argue with that if you know snooker!

Congratulations to both players: Mark - you are still the man for the champion job! John - a take a bow in front of that brown you potted! :-)
And here’s a song to finish with, I think many of you know why I picked it. I’ve just changed the band, for I like the Smokie version better ;-)

UK Championship - Marea Finala

John Higgins, campion UK Championship 2010
Mai tineti minte versurile din melodia de pe coloana sonora a filmulului "Dirty Dancing", care incepea cu: "Now, I’ve had the time of my life, no I never felt like this before...."? :-)) Nebunie curata pana in ultimul moment!

Mirosea a victorie!

Higgins isi croieste drum spre victoria definitiva

Bila maro era in buzunar, doar albastrica, rozalia si tenebroasa neagra ramanand pe masa! John are sase sa devina campion! Inscrie bila albastra si ridica pumnul in semn de victorie in timp de audienta este aproape lesinata de emotii! Iar acum era randul rozaliei sa fie inscriea regeste! John Higgins este campion! Dumnezelule, ce finala! :-))

Gasca de la BBC: John Parrott, Steve Davis si Hazel Irvine
E de necrezut! De necrezut! Williams a avut jocul in mana si totusi nu a reusit sa duca victoria la bun sfarsit! Insa acea bila maro, acea bila maro inscrisa cu atata maiestrie de Higgins, a insemnat victoria unuia si infrancerea celuilalt! Ce meci! Ce finala! Ce durere de cap! :-)))))

Felicitari baieti! Jos palaria!

Melodia de incheiere este si melodia pe care campionul Higgins intra in arena, doar ca este in interpretarea celor de la Smokie. Enjoy! ;-)
