After a very exciting 2011 first month (snooker related), here we go again with snooker at full-speed. No, no we don’t have another Shoot-Out event, but we have a brand new and revived tournament (German Masters), we have a new and improved format for the Welsh Open and we will continue to follow the snooker boys in their conquest of a Premier League spot (of course I’m referring to Championship League). But let’s not prolong the suspense and see what February brings to snooker and what snooker bring to February :-P


1. German Masters


When?: 2 - 6 February
Where?: Berlin, Germany
Defending champion:John Higgins (1997)

Ranking points: winner - 5,000 points, runner-up - 4,000 points, losing semi-finalists - 3,200 points, losing quarter-finalists - 2,500 points, last 16 - 1,900 points, last 32 - 1,400 points (700*), last 48 - 1,150 points (575*), last 64 - 900 points (450*) and for the last 96 - 650 points (325*).

Prize money: winner (50,000 Euros), runner-up (30,000 Euros), losing semi-finalists (15,000 Euros), losing quarter-finalists (9,000 Euros), last 16 (6,000 Euros), last 32 (3,750 Euros) and for the last 48 (1,500 Euros). There is also prize money for the highest break of the tournament (2,000 Euros).


2. Welsh Open (the qualifying rounds)

5. Championship League (Groups 5+6)


When?: 28th of February - 3rd of March

Who’s playing?: G5 - Mark Allen, Mark King, Marco Fu, Matthew Stevens (from G4), Ding Junhui, Liang Wenbo and Ricky Walden; G6 - Mark Allen, Mark King, Matthew Stevens, Liang Wenbo (from G5) Mark Davis, Stephen Lee and Judd Trump.

Prize money: For the group phase: winner of each final (3,000), runner-up in final (£2,000), losing semi-finalists (£1,000). There is also a prize of £ 100 for every frame won and a £500 for the highest break of the group.
For the winners group: overall champion (£10,000), overall runner-up (£5,000) and losing semi-finalists (£3,000). There is also a prize of £ 300 for every frame won and one of £1,000 for the highest break.
