Player Tour Championship Event 6 (2011) - Day 2

Trump back in action
The first day of the main event that we proudly call Players Tour Championship Event 6 saw none of the local Polish stars getting a place in the Last 16 round, but it did send Mark King, Liu Chuang, Liang Wenbo and snooker legend Steve Davis through. That's a first for all of them.

The player that stunned us during this year's China Open and World Championship, the Bristol's golden boy Judd Trump had a great day and was actually the first through to the next round. He started his day with a 4-0 against Rafal Goreck, followed by a hard fought 4-3 against Tian Pengfei (who managed to comeback in the game from being 3-1 down) and finally ended his day covered in glory (aka. three mighty century breaks of 105, 113 and 135) by beating Alfie Burden 4-1.

Just a few second away, the second place from the Last 16 was being occupied, this time by the "world champions' crashes" as I like to call him, Matthew Selt. With a 4-2 against "The Assassin" Allan Taylor, 4-3 against Scotland's Marcus Campbell and another 4-2 in front of Marco Fu, Matthews booked a snooker meeting with Juddy Trump for Sunday morning.

China's men
China is proudly represented in the glorious Last 16 round by two players: Liu Chuang and Liang Wenbo. Chuang began his day with a very tight battle against Martin Gould whom he beat 4-3, continued in the same way with Simon Bedford, only to find some rhythm by the end of the day, as he defeated the legendary Tony Drago 4-1.
Wenbo on the other hand, had a pretty easy start as his first opponent, David Morris, withdrew from the tournament, but he ended up on a decider with Michael White just a few hours after that. Still, he managed to keep himself together and win the battle 4-3 only to end the snooker day (literally, for it was the last match of the day) with a 4-1 in front of Nigel Bond.

The Nugget makes it to the Last 16
The six-time world champion, the man that has inspired generations of snooker players, the one that still keeps that sparkle of geniality when he's playing, Steve Davis, has finally made it into the Last 16. With victories of 4-2 against Jaroslaw Kowalski, a tight 4-3 with Barry Hawkins and a hard fought 4-2 by playing Alan McManus, "The Nugget" is proving once more that perseverance and determination are vital if you want to succeed. And may I mention that all that has been accomplished with a brand new cue, for his old one was lost by the airline company.

A great surprise has been to see Mark King joining the rest of the team in the next round, as he beat Barry Pinches 4-3, hammered a very dangerous Dave Harold 4-1 and manages to fight back against China's Chen Zhe by taking the decider 4-3, but also to see Stephen Lee back in business, "The Bulldog" of snooker performing a whitewash against Phan Quoc Binh, being responsible for the early exit of PTC 5 champion, Andrew Higginson whom he beat 4-1 and finally settling for a 4-1 with Stephen Craigie.

Mark King gets a place for the next round
Jack Lisowski is not what we would call a stranger to the Last 16, but considering that he only got there for the first time during the previous PTC, I think it is understandable why the lad got another one this time too. He’s starting to like it :-))
So, with a 4-2 scoreline obtained in front of Kyren Wilson, an enormously well fought 4-3 against Stuart Bingham and a clear 4-0 against David Singh, he seems ready for some winning. Last time he made it all the way to the semi-final, so let's see if he can repeat the performance or who knows, he might even go further on.
