Ken gets a place in the Last 16
Saturday in Killarney: the perfect way to start a proper weekend and to get yourself a place into the marvellous and most wanted Last 16 round. For eight of the players the dream came true and as you read these lines, they are already fighting genuine cue battle to get a place in the quarter-finals of the Alex Higgins International Trophy (PTC 8) and if they are good and lucky enough maybe go even further than that.

Long time since we saw Ken Doherty making his appearance in the Last 16 (last time it was during PTC 3), but gladly the Irish fans will be able to see him again, as he won all three matches by beating Joe Meara, Ali Carter and Rory McLeod all of them by 4-3.
He will meet Alan McManus in the next round, the Scotsman earning a spot after winning 4-2 over the strategist Dave Harold and hammering Shaun Murphy 4-1.

Judd Trump, playing brilliantly well
Judd Trump seemed to have no problem at all when he booked a place in the Last 16, victories like 4-3 against Adam Wicheard, 4-3 with Andrew Norman and 4-0 in front of Marco Fu speaking for themselves.
It was also the case of the Pink Army soldier, Barry Hawkins whose 4-1 over Craig Steadman, 4-0 with Kurt Maflin and 4-2 with the PTC 5 champion Andrew Higginson got him a place next to the rest of the crew.

The "Bulldog" Stephen Lee got back on track obtaining satisfactory results against Zhang Anda (4-0), Sam Baird (4-0) and Luca Brecel (4-2), while Mark Selby although struggled a bit by the end of the day he successfully managed to beat Alfie Burden 4-1, Graeme Dott 4-0 and Jimmy Robertson 4-3.

And since I mentioned Brecel a few sentences before, I have to say this is quite a good performance for the Belgian prodigy. During this year's series of PTCs the only time he won two matches was in PTC 2. Back then the one who prevented him for going further was Rory McLeod, who beat him in a decider. Still, this a good sign for Luca, both of the victories he cashed yesterday being pretty solid: 4-1 with Nick Jennings and 4-2 with Anthony McGill.

Mark Selby aiming for another win?
But returning to the famous Last 16, China sent an ambassador as well. Yu Delu was the player who whitewashed Jack Lisowski 4-0, beat Andy Hicks 4-2 and ended Adam Duffy's PTC dream with another 4-2.

The first champion of the Australian Goldfields Open, Stuart Bingham, also retained a spot  after winning 4-0 over Alex Taubman and 4-1 over the legend Jimmy White and Ricky Walden.

With Delu and Bingham on board the line-up is set and we can move on to the next phase of the PTC 8.
