Players Tour Championship Event 8 - Day 1 (the qualifiers)

Some surprises have been recorded
First day in Killarney meant the amateur players were fighting for a place on the main event. For quite some time now the list of players that made it to face the professional gladiators of the green baize had been almost the same. It kind of became a pattern to see the same players through to the first round of the main PTC. However, this has changed and has changed dramatically.

First of all, the two snooker knights, Ben Harrison and Allan Taylor, players that we all know and admire, although won their first match ( Harrison beat Kevin O'Leary 4-0, while Taylor applied the same scoreline to Anthony O'Conner), there weren't too lucky in their second confrontation. Taylor was the victim of a very "musical" Robbie Williams who beat him 4-1, while Harrison lost the deciding frame against Craig Steadman 4-3.

No "Doube T" on this PTC
Phil O'Kane was also among those who didn't make it to the main event, the Englishman being whitewash 4-0 by John Sutton, as well as Martin O'Donnell who lost 4-2 to Clinton Franey, Patrick Wallace who was defeated after a very close cue battle by Josh Boileau 4-3, or Chen Zhe, who experienced a similar situation after losing 4-3 in front of Jordan Brown.

However, China's team is safe, Zang Anda winning 4-1 over Martin Ball and getting a bye to the main event after Jak Jones withdrew from the tournament.
Another name that we are going to miss is Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon, the Thai being defeated 4-3 by Julian Logue, but also Chris Norbury who got a perfect whitewash from Jamie O'Neill.

But moving on to the players that did make it into the main event, we have Sam Harvey whose 4-2 result against David Singh secured him a place further in the tournament, as well as OnQPromotions and soon to be a 20-year old lad Kyren Wilson, who best Joe Delaney by the same scoreline.

The Welshman Alex Taubman obtained victories of 4-2 against Stephen Byrne and 4-0 over Brian Milne, Stephen Craigie got on an easy start since his first opponent, Connel Doherty pulled out of the event, but he soon proved he is in for the kill beating Bash Maqsood 4-0, while Alex Davies successfully "treated" his snooker opponents (Matthew Day and Ryan Causton) with a 4-2 scoreline.
