Players Tour Championship Event 10 (2011) - Holt wins PTC 10

23:24:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Michael Holt, the 2011 PTC 10 champion
Michael Holt has won his first ranking event this season by beating Dominic Dale 4-2 and taking the PTC 10 crown. Holt is no stranger from winning these types of events, last season, the player from Nottingham grabbing EPTC 6 title after beating John Higgins 4-3 in the final.

Michael started his PTC 10 journey by kneeling down the Indian Aditya Mehta 4-0, hammering Ian McCulloch 4-1 and ending on a close 4-3 the match against world number one, Mark Selby. Hence, a place in the Last 16 round.
The last day of the competition began with a 4-1 victory over PTC 3 champion, Ben Woollaston, followed by a very determined 4-0 against Jamie Cope, only to see the lad taking down his last year EPTC 6 opponent, John Higgins, by 4-2 in the semis.

Dominic Dale - the 2011 PTC 10 runner-up
The final saw Holty facing Dominic Dale, a player that had also won a PTC event last season (PTC 6).

By firing in breaks of 75, 46 and 58 Holt took the first two frames of the match, after that the rhythm of the cues' battle dropping a bit.
Scrappiness took over, although this didn't mean the next frame wasn't a good one, Dominic using a top break of 44 to "put it in his pocket".

The Welshman had a pretty good chance to win the forth frame, but sadly he left the last yellow on after a bad safety shot, Holt coming to the table and turning the scoreline into 3-1. Still, Dale didn't give up and why would he? He had a very good run until then and he was determined to continue it.
Holty saluting the nonexisting crowd from Sheffield

Runs of 27 and 37 helped the "Spaceman" Dale to pull one back, but unfortunately for him, Holt was stronger and with a series of 29 and 44 he cashed the very next frame to win the match and the tournament 4-2.

The PTC 10 event precedes the second most important tournament from the snooker calendar, the UK Championship (3-11 of December), so the players that shinned during this event will hopefully keep on doing so in York.

Players Tour Championship Event 10 (2011) - Day 3

13:27:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Ricky makes his first 147
It is practically raining with maximum breaks in Sheffield. First it was Mike Dunn's 147 at the UK Championship qualifiers, then David Grey collected one during the qualifying rounds of the PTC 10, only to see Ricky Walden hit his maiden 147, yesterday, during the main PTC 10 event.

But Ricky didn't stop there. He won 4-1 over Gareth Allen (the match that contained the brilliant 147 break), then continued with a 4-3 win over Mark King and ended his day with another close 4-3, this time against Mark Williams.

David Grace, the proud graduate of Q School Event One made the biggest breakthrough of his career by getting a place in the Last 16 after beating no more than three Pink Army members. His first victim was Mark Davis, whom he beat 4-3, then it came the 4-2 win over Liam Highfield and finished in great style with another 4-3 scoreline, this time against Jimmy Robertson. Great day for Grace, as well as a very hard one (as he himself said on Twitter).

"The Bulldog" Stephen Lee managed to book himself a place into the next round also by crashing Zak Surety and Marcus Campbell 4-0 and hammering Simon Bedford 4-1, while the Scot Graeme Dott started his day with a clean 4-0 obtained in front of Ashley Carty, continued on the same road this time kneeling down Michael Wasley and finished by seeing off the Irishman Fergal O'Brien 4-2.

David Grace in action
A really great surprise was to see "Spaceman" Dominic Dale, the snooker's best singer and entertainer, getting a spot next to the other lads in the Last 16 round after obtaining victories of 4-3 against his pink colleague Jamie Jones, of 4-2 in front of Shaun Murphy and of 4-1 AGAIN, in front of another pink comrade, this time his victim being Jamie O'Neill.

If you are wondering how long did it take to see all yesterday's matches being finished, I'm going to tell you: a lot. The last battle of cues was ended somewhere around 1.20am (UK time), which means 3.20am for me, so late in the night.
The last match was the one between Ken Doherty and Sam Baird, match that was succefully won by the 1997 world champion by 4-2. This victory along with a 4-0 over Ricky Norris and a 4-3 against Peter Lines guarantees him a place in the next round.

Still, probably the match that kept us all awake (or at least it kept me awake), was the one between Liang Wenbo and Anthony McGill. It was such a tight and hard fought match from both sides. It was so tense and so close that the decider ended up on the black. The scoreline was 72-72 with only the little crazy black ball left on the table. Minutes were passing bye as players took turns and tried to pot it, in the end Wenbo being the one who prevailed.

Dave Harold and Tian Pengfei
I can't end this bid without mentioning one hell of a player, a player that made it in the Last 16 round and that I would really love to see win a ranking event this season. His name is Dave Harold and although many of us find his cue action style a bit odd, he's a really great player. The safety shots he put against China’s Tian Pengfei were just amazing and that determination that he keeps on showing and the guts he has, are  ... well, words don’t do him justice.

He's not at the age of making the people go "wow" anymore, but he sure has some of that geniality spark left. He beat Robert Milkins 4-3, Barry Hawkins 4-1 and Tian Pengfei 4-2, to safely fly all the way to the final stages of this PTC. Top class!

Players Tour Championship Event 10 (2011) - Day 2

Chris Norbury - from the qualifying rounds to the Last 16
The first day of the main event ended late in the night, Holt and Selby being the ones responsible for keeping the snooker fans awake. However they weren't the only ones who finished their battles of cues so late, for MacKenzie, Woollaston, Norman and Norbury had plenty to play for and decided to prolong the suspense of who’s going to get a spot for the next round.

Can't blame the lads to be honest, because both Norman and Norbury have never reached this stage of the PTCs and they definitely haven't got a spot in the Last 16 ... until now that is. Of course that it wasn't possible for both of them to get one, especially since they played one another, but it became a reality for Chris Norbury.

The 25-year-old lad from England managed to earn a place on the main event by winning two qualifying matches, and yesterday he defeated "The Sheriff of Pottingham" Anthony Hamilton 4-2, "The Welsh Dragon" Matthew Stevens 4-1 and a proud and very well trained member of the Pink Team, Andrew Norman 4-2. Now that's how you play snooker!

Scott MacKenzie, the Scottish player that got a place on the Main Tour due to his outstanding performances, was also a stranger from what the glorious "Last 16" round means. Unfortunately for him though, he will have to wait a bit longer for although he won the first two matches, he got whitewashed 4-0 by PTC 3 champion Ben Woollaston.

Robbo and Higgins are thorugh to the Last 16
And now, the match that kept us wide awake all night long: Michael Holt v. Mark Selby. As expected it went all the way though the deciding frame. It all seemed to go Selby's way, since the player whose nicknames is "The Jester from Leicester" was leading 2-0, but Holty found the strength for a comeback. Once again, Selby put his nose in front at 3-2, but Holt fought back forcing a decider, decider that he won fair and square with a top break of 74.

Two word champions will continue to delight us with their snooker skills on Wednesday, as both Neil Robertson and John Higgins safely landed in the Last 16 round.
Robertson crashed Williams Lemons 4-0, took down Mark Allen 4-2 and hammered Gerard Greene 4-1 in the process, while Higgins started with a 4-2 against David Hogan, continued with a wise 4-1 against Adrian Gunnell and ended with a thrilling 4-3 against fellow-country and seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry. Top class!

A very nice surprise to see Jamie Cope booking himself a place for the next stage of this PTC, the lad winning 4-2 over Adam Wicheard, 4-0 over Nick Jennings and 4-2 over Liu Song, while Joe Perry seems to be back on "killing mood" after performing a 4-0 whitewash on Paul Metcalf and beating Matthew Couch 4-2 and Marco Fu 4-3.

Well, I can't help on saying that the last match, the one against Fu, was a very close one, more since the Hong Kong resident is the player that hit most of the century breaks recorded yesterday (101, 103, 109, 120, 130), the last two being made in the match against Perry. But as always, a good set of century breaks doesn't automatically guarantee you a win.

Rory McLeod, the player that can easily be called the inventor of slow snooker (and I mean really slow snooker), got a place on the next round also by winning 4-0 over Sydney Wilson and 4-1 over Stephen Maguire and Nigel Bond. All great victories, if I may add.

Players Tour Championship Event 10 (2011) - Day 1

14:12:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

David Gray hits a beautiful 147
Seems to be raining with maximum breaks lately. The dust hasn't even gathered yet on Mike Dunn's first 147, that Londoner David Gray hit one in the qualifying rounds of the PTC 10 Event.

Although this isn't David's first 147 (the lad making one in the final of the 2004 UK Championship), it has some kind of special meaning, not just a personal one, but also a more general one, if I may call it like that, because this is the 80th maximum break hit in the history of snooker (officially speaking).

Also with this beautiful break, Gray sealed a 4-2 victory over Robbie Williams to book a snooker meeting with Simon Bedford on Tuesday morning.

It was a very nice surprise to see young Greg Davis (Steve Davis' son) playing in Sheffield after such a long time. Unfortunately the lad lost 4-2 to Duane Jones, a very popular face among those who reach the main event, but surely if he keeps up the practicing we'll be hearing more of him.
On the other hand, Peter Lines' son Oliver obtained a very good 4-2 victory over Neal Jones and is meeting Passakorn Suwannawat in the first round of the PTC 10.

Sean O'Sullivan is also among those who will delight us with their cue action, the player with a very prestigious name defeating Barry Stark 4-0 and a very powerful Craig Steadman 4-3, Chris Norbury is not to miss the party either, his victories of 4-1 over Ryan Thomerson and Jamie Brown securing him a spot in the main event, while Stephen Ellis decided to join the gang as well by beating Jak Jones 4-2 and Billy Brown 4-0.

China's Anda Zhang and Chen Zhe have grabbed a place for the event too, Anda's 4-2 over Mitchell Travis doing the trick, while Chen imposed himself with a more dramatic 4-0 over Rogelio Esteiro.

Below you can check Day 1 list of results:

Premier League (2011) Ronnie O'Sullivan - ten-time champion

00:15:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the 2011 Premier League champion
Ronnie O'Sullivan beat China's Ding Junhui 7-1 to collect his 10th Premier League title and gets to keep his beloved crown one more year.

After managing to qualify for the 2011 Premier League play-offs by earning 18 precious points, points that put him at the top of the list, O'Sullivan beat Mark Williams 5-2 in the semi-finals in order to book himself a place into the grand final for the 11th time.
Only in 2009 did Ronnie reached the final and lost it. Back then Shaun Murphy was winning 7-3, but that wasn't going to be the case this year.

The first four frames were all cashed by the player also known under the nickname "The Rocket" with breaks of 52, 92, 56 and 24. His opponent had only managed to get one single frame under his belt, before O'Sullivan smoothly moved pass the victory line with runs of 48, 63 and 77.

Who said the runner-up can't smile?
Although Ding didn't play at his best and missed more than one chance to get back at O'Sullivan, he was also extremely unlucky.

For example on frame six when he was on a steady break of 36 and due to a massive kick he missed to pot a red into the right pocket, or when he stopped his break at just 60 points by missing a red to the left middle, during frame seven, Ronnie returning to the table to win on the black with 63 points.

All that combined with not a perfect cue action and with O'Sullivan’s dominancy over the whole game, resulted into the last named player’s victory. A well deserved victory that adds one more Premier League trophy to Ronnie's collection. Now, he has 10 and that big smile that he showed at the end of the competition says it all: he's more than happy with this achievement.

So after travelling high and low the UK the Premier League caravan stops in Norfolk, where after a weekend of fast and furious snooker O'Sullivan is prolonging his reigning champion status for one more year ... the least.

Premier League 2011 - Ding and O'Sullivan reach the final

01:53:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Ding - first name in the final
This year's Premier League play-offs sent Ding Junhui and Ronnie O'Sullivan in the grand final. Ding saw off Judd Trump by 5-3 in the process of qualifying for the final stage of the competition, while Ronnie beat the Welshman Mark Williams 5-2 to set his 10th apparition in the final.

It's the first time an Asian player reaches the final of the Premier Lerague since 2003. Back then, Marco Fu not only that he reached the final, but he also won it 9-5 by beating Mark Williams and became the first and only Chinese to ever win a Premier League trophy. Can Ding do something about that number?

Not a lucky evening for Trump
Well, if we are to judge after his semi-final performance, I would say that he stands a chance even though his opponent is the "Premier League king".

On the other hand, Judd Trump was seen as favourite to beat him and just look at what happened. Maybe, just maybe, the experience made the difference.

Until Ding hit a marvellous 139 break, the lads had been separated by just one frame. Still, from that particular moment on, the direction of the match changed completely.
The 6th frame was going to be won also by Ding, this putting him 4-2 up against Trump and although Bristol's boy hit in series of 43 and 23 to try and catch up, he only managed to win the following frame, but not the one after that.
Ding closed with a 75 to book himself a very well deserved spot in the final.

No surprise to see Ronnie reach the final
The second semi-final featured the names of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams and by all means it was a bit odd. Why? Maybe because it was weird to see Williams miss so many chances as well as being very unlucky when he was up for the kill. But, that's snooker.

Despite everything the one that broke the ice was Mark who used just a break of 43 in the process. The scoreline would have easily gone 2-0 in his favour if he wouldn't miss a red to the right pocket and let O'Sullivan in. But sadly for him he did, and so "The Rocket" levelled the match.

The next frame was going to be cashed also by O'Sullivan with a beautiful 109 break, but the Welshman managed to draw level at 2-2. Unfortunately for him that frame, right there, was going to be the last one to enter in his pocket during his battle of cues.

Mark Williams torn apart  between missing & being unlucky
Runs of 55, 84 and 88 secured O'Sullivan a smooth journey into tomorrow's final, where he’s meeting with another great cueist, in the person of Ding Junhui.

So, from 7.30pm (UK time) on SkySports 2 the action continues.
Will Ronnie win his 10th Premier League title, or shall we see a little Chinese with a big smile on his face at the end of the evening lifting that shiny trophy? Only time can tell.

Players Tour Championship Event 10 (2011) - Here we go again

19:42:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

PTC 10 is underway
No week without a PTC event - that's how I think, so while the eyes of the snooker fans are most likely to follow what's going on in Norfolk, where the Premier League is underway, in the city of snooker - Sheffield - the 10th event of the PTC series is kicking off.

Although the schedule is a bit unusual, meaning that the tournament is starting on a Sunday and not on a Friday as we have been used to, the battles of cues are surely to be as entertaining and hard as always. The first day is dedicated to the qualifying round, from Monday to Wednesday the main event taking place.

Until this moment, there are only three players that have managed to achieve the unexpected and win a PTC event two times. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the one that broke the ice by taking PTC 1 and PTC 7 titles, Neil Robertson followed up next winning PTC 6 and PTC 8, while Judd Trump took care of grabbing PTC 2 and PTC 9 crowns.
Will this edition see a different winner, or shall we see one of these two lads enlarging their collection of trophies?

As you probably know already the PTCs have 12 events, at the end of the 12th one, 24 players going into the PTC Grand Finals in order to fight for the real trophy. Those 24 players will be selected out of all the players that took part in the PTCs taking into account how much money they earned throughout these tournaments.
There's also a golden rule, meaning that in order to qualify you need to take part in at least three PTCs and three EPTCs (European tournaments).

Considering that we have only three more PTC events left (including this one), the lads are to play at their best and hope to get one of those precious 24 places.

German Masters 2011 (the qualifiers) - Who's going to Berlin

18:51:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

These shoes are made for walking to Berlin
It was hard, it was messy and exhausting but in the end it was all worth it. 16 lucky players will join the ones that are privileged enough as to be in Top 16 next February in Berlin for the second edition of the German Masters (modern GM, that is).

The last day saw a very thrilling match, actually the first on the list: Ken Doherty v. Sam Craigie. Now, remember that I told you the young Sam had a wonderful run. Well, he continued that run yesterday and he almost, almost won the battle with the "Darling of Dublin".

Sam was leading 4-0, when Ken decided to make a remarkable comeback and end the match on a decider, decider that he proudly won. Now, that's how you play snooker: with guts.

Jimmy White met with another legend of the green baize, Peter Ebdon. As the lads before them, they too ended they snooker dispute with a decider that Ebbo took fair and square in order to book himself a trip to Berlin. His fans are thrilled, there's no doubt about that.

Three "pink clashes" were part of the qualifying rounds equation yesterday: Joe Perry v. Robert Milkins, Barry Hawkins v. Andy Hicks and Mark Davis v. Michael White.

Perry is flying to Germany next year
If I recall well, Perry did a pretty good job during the 2011 German Masters by reaching the quarter-finals. Well, let’s just say that now he has a chance to go even further, for his 5-3 victory over Robert Milkins sent him straight to Germany.

Hawkins is also going to be there, as he won 5-4 over his pink colleague Andy Hicks, Mark Davis not wasting any time and assuring himself to be packing his bags in February after defeating Michael White 5-2. A bit of history repeated since Davis beat White 6-2 in the last round of the UK Championship qualifiers.

China's going to be represented by Yu Delu who won 5-3 over Jamie Cope, but also by Liu Song who saw off the Irishman Fergal O'Brien 5-4, while Thailand's James Wattana obtained a brilliant 5-1 victory over Stephen Hendry. Asia is rocking!

The man of the qualifiers, Mike Dunn is going to be seen at the venue also, as he beat Mark King 5-3, Adrian Gunnell is showing his face and cue style as well after hammering Marco Fu 5-1, while Scotland's Marcus Campbell secured his trip with a 5-3 win over Peter Lines.

New face in town - Paul Davison
PTC 5 champion Andrew Higginson ended the qualifying rounds covered in glory (aka. a 5-2 obtained in front of Jamie Jones), Ricky Walden hammered China's Liu Chuang 5-1 for a place next to the other players, while Paul Davison not-such-a-familiar-face-in-tournaments fought with all his strength against Dominic Dale and prevailed 5-4.

The winners group was completed by Tom Ford's 5-0 victory over the "Sheriff of Pottingham" Anthony Hamilton, but also by the Welshman Ryan Day who won a very tough battle of cues, 5-4 with Anthony McGill.

Below you can check the list of results:

10am
51 Ken Doherty 5-4 Sam Craigie
52 Peter Ebdon 5-4 Jimmy White
53 Marco Fu 1-5 Adrian Gunnell
54 Jamie Cope 3-5 Yu Delu
55 Joe Perry 3-5 Robert Milkins
56 Andrew Higginson 5-2 Jamie Jones

2.30pm
57 Mark King 3-5 Mike Dunn
58 Marcus Campbell 5-3 Peter Lines
59 Fergal O'Brien 4-5 Liu Song
60 Stephen Hendry 1-5 James Wattana
61 Ricky Walden 5-1 Liu Chuang

7pm
62 Barry Hawkins 5-4 Andy Hicks
63 Dominic Dale 4-5 Paul Davison
64 Tom Ford 5-0 Anthony Hamilton
65 Ryan Day 5-4 Anthony McGill
66 Mark Davis 5-2 Michael White

Premier League 2011 - the play-offs

17:34:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

A year has passed since Ronnie O'Sullivan captured his ninth Premier League title and now we are going back to base. This means that the semi-finals and the grand final will kick off this weekend with four players eager to get their hands on that shiny trophy. Who will succeed? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.

The first semi-final is featuring the names of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams. What a fine pair, don't you think?
Needless to say that O'Sullivan's made for this type of format. He collected no more than 18 points, which have put him at the top of the ranking Premier League system. It's true that he didn't have a pretty start, his first match against Shaun Murphy being lost 3-2, but he recovered soon after.

Week four found him taking down Matthew Stevens 3-0 and Ali Carter 3-1, week eight saw the "Rocket" closing on a tight 3-2 the semi-final against Judd Trump, but getting hammered by Ding Junhui 3-1, while week 10 was spread with a perfect 3-0 over his good old friend Jimmy White and a 3-1 in front of Shaun Murphy.
It surely was a bumpy road, but from the man who's defending his crown and has nine more at home ... well, I guess we can forgive him for not winning all his battles of cues, right?

O'Sullivan is facing Williams
His opponent, Mark Williams qualified last for the play-offs with only 13 points. Now, don't get me wrong, for those points were earned fair and square and the Welshman deserved a place in the final stages, only that well ... his run surely didn't do him any justice.

He began his Premier League journey with the right foot by winning week two (3-0 with Jimmy White and 3-1 against Shaun Murphy), but after that he lost week's five semi-final 3-1 with Judd Trump, week's six semi-final 3-2 with Ali Carter, while during week nine, although he crashed his fellow-country Matthew Stevens 3-0 in the semis, got beat 3-1 by the current world champion, John Higgins 3-1.
As you can see his nickname - The Welsh Potting Machine - hasn’t popped out yet and take charge, but we all know Williams and when he's in the mood, he is in the mood! So you might just see the lad trying to provoke quite the upset here. And succeeding it.

The second semi-final is putting China's Ding Junhui and Bristol's Judd Trump face to face. The player that has the most famous "Poker face" each time that plays and the "Ace" will fight for a place in Sunday's grand final.

On 22nd of September, Ding was reaching the final of week's three of cue action. Sadly for him he was going to lose. After a great match with Shaun Murphy, match that ended 3-2 in his favour, Ding took on the 2010 world champion, Neil Robertson. By being in absolutely brilliant form, Neil kneed Ding down by 3-1. Not a very promising start for the little Chinese.
And if you are to remember week four, then you will definitely recall that he got knock down in the semis by Ali Carter 3-0. This was getting worse by the week.

Ding and Judd, face to face
But then it happened: the comeback. With a 3-2 against Jimmy White and a 3-1 over Ali Carter, Ding Junhui was winning week six of the Premier League. But he didn't stop there. No, sir.

He also won week eight, when he beat Neil Robertson 3-2 (payback time) and the one and only Ronnie O'Sullivan 3-1.
If Ding is to put this form into action tomorrow night, he will definitely stand a chance in the race for the big final.

And now, we have young master Judd Trump. We all know the lad. He doesn't need any praise or fancy introductions. He's capable of taking down every player in the circuit and he has proven so in the last year.
The boy from Bristol started his race with two beautiful victories: the first happened during week 5, (when he beat Mark Williams 3-1 and Matthew Stevens 3-0) and the second during week seven (when he hammered Ali Carter 3-1, but also Neil Robertson).

And yet for every little thing, there's also an opposite side. So after two great achievements, came two big loses. First during week eight, when he lost 3-2 to Ronnie O'Sullivan and second during the very last week when he was whitewashed 3-0 by Shaun Murphy.
Stuff like this happen, but taking into account that he loves to play and finds great pleasure in the "shot-clock", he is definitely the man I will be keeping an eye on for the rest of this competition.

So, without any further ado, here's Saturday Premier League match schedule with a tiny mention: the semis are first to five.
According to SkySports 4 programme, the action is to start at 7:30pm (UK time).

SF 1: Ronnie O'Sullivan v. Mark Williams
SF 2: Ding Junhui v. Judd Trump

German Masters 2011 (the qualifiers) - Day 3

01:46:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

The youngsters are taking over snooker
The penultimate day of this year's German Masters qualifying rounds was a very intense one. No wonder, since tomorrow is the last day and all the remaining competitors are eager for a trip in Berlin at the beginning of the next year.

I think the majority of you read somewhere or heard someone say that "The youngsters are the future". Tell you what: with youngsters like Sam Craigie or Michael White, the future of snooker is surely safe.
After hammering Jack Lisowksi the other day in the first round, Sam managed to beat David Grace 5-2 and book himself a place in the third round where he's meeting the one and only Ken Doherty. What a thrill for the 17 year-old lad.

But Michael has also kicked some ass. Yes, sir! The Welsh boy that has only 20 years in his bag obtained a brilliant 5-2 victory over China's Xiao Guodong in order to set a snooker meeting with Mark Davis. Now, Mark is a Pink soldier as Michael, but what's even more interesting is that these two players met during the last round of the UK Championship qualifiers a couple of weeks ago. Back then, Mark won 6-2. Will the history repeat itself?

The legendary Jimmy White has kept his good form and his efforts have been fully repaid with yet another victory. This time, his victim was Stuart Carrington, whom Jimmy beat 5-3. Now he's facing a very dear old friend of the baize with a totally different style than his: Peter Ebdon.

Clash is the name of the game
While Jimmy Robertson got whitewashed 5-0 by Adrian Gunnell, Alfie Burden lost 5-2 to Yu Delu, Adam Wicheard experienced the cruel crash imposed by Mike Dunn and Andrew Pagget lost a very close fight, 5-4 with the Thai James Wattana, the rest of the Pink Army proud members have kept on marching on.

So, Robert Milkins hammered 5-1 the one and only Steve Davis now having to take on a pink colleague Joe Perry, Andy Hicks ended Alan McManus German dream with a 5-4 scoreline to meet also a pink comrade Barry Hawkins, while Jamie Jones beat Ben Woollaston (the PTC 3 winner) 5-2 to book himself a snooker encounter with Andrew Higginson (the PTC 5 winner). It just keeps on getting better and better.

China's Liu Chuang took down his fellow-country Liang Wenbo 5-3, while Scotland's Anthony McGill obtained a very hard fought victory of 5-4 over England's Adam Duffy to face the Welshman Ryan Day in tomorrow’s last round. Is snooker a great sport or what? All nations in one place.

German Masters 2011 (the qualifiers) - Day 2

02:38:00 Ramona Dragomir 0 Comments

Wattana wins over a fellow-country
The second day of the German Masters qualifiers saw some very interesting matches, like the clash between the two Thais, James Wattana and Passakorn Suwannawat, or the Asian match that featured the names of Liang Wenbo and Aditya Mehta.

At the same time the Pink team from OnQ Promotions has continued his good run, only two out of five players not managing to get through the next round.

The most popular and definitely a snooker legend not just in his own country but also abroad, the Thai James Wattana, had to face one of his fellow-country, Passakorn Suwannawat. They might represent the same nation, but snooker is snooker and so, without any remorse, James beat his opponent 5-3.

The same scoreline was going to be used in the next match, the one that saw a China’s Liang Wenbo taking on India's Aditya Mehta and also winning over him. Actually the Chinese team has had, as always, a pretty good start. Liu Chuang managed to beat Ian McCulloch, Liu Song saw Liam Highfield out, while Xiao Guodong ended David Gilbert's German Masters dream. All these victories were ended on a 5-3 result. Strange coincidence.

The Pink Army marches on
Andrew Pagett didn't let down his pink team and hammered the one and only "007 Agent" of snooker, Nigel Bond 5-1, Andy Hicks eliminated Cao Yupeng by 5-2, while Michael White kneeled down Michael Holt 5-2.
Unfortunately, Gerard Greene lost his battle of cues, David Morris making Ireland proud and obtaining a well deserved victory of 5-2.
