Matthew Stevens, the "flying Welshman"
The last match of the day to see completed its two sessions sent Welshman Matthew Stevens in the Last 16 round after a great 10-3 victory over the man from Hong Kong, Marco Fu.

Stevens was in a great form today aiming for breaking the record and performing the second whitewash ever to happen at the Crucible, but his opponent proved not to be very fond of that idea.

Breaks of 67, 33, 81, 67, 66, 55 and 38 were helping the Welshman to fly all the way to 8-0, while Fu was clearly struggling to find his form.

Worrying times for Marco Fu
Still, just before the session was over Fu managed to avoid the potential whitewash and pulled back a frame after hitting a 62 break.

As the second and last session started Marco decided to have a go and added one more frame to his small collection, while Stevens took the next one to go one step away from victory, at 9-2.

Runs of 26 and 51 were bringing Fu the 12th frame, but it was a bit too late for a comeback. Stevens used a series of 36 and 32 to end his opponent's misery at 10-3.

Stephen Lee and Andrew Higginson got together at the next table to dispute their first session, with the PTC 5 champion taking a 5-4 lead.
