Ronnie O'Sullivan booked his place in the Last 16 round after a 10-7 victory recorded in front of David Gilbert.

It wasn't an easy match and that scoreline says it all, well ... maybe fails a bit to tell the whole story, because David Gilbert put on quite a fight always being one, or two frames behind his opponent and trying his best to catch up with the "speeding Rocket".

O'Sullivan held a 6-3 overnight advantage (more on that here), but when the lads returned this morning, David was the one to make the first move and grab the 10th frame "by its horns".

However, the next two frames were cashed by O'Sullivan who used runs of 41, 30 and a great 101 (his 820th century break) to go 8-4 up.

As the interval was about to start, Gilbert took a scrappy 13th frame and added one more when returning into the arena, thanks to a 61 clearance.

A top break of 51 was propelling O'Sullivan just one away from victory, when David made one last try (break of 71) to trail 9-7.

Minutes (and 72 points) later, Ronnie was making the scoreboard freeze at 10-7, as he was now certain of his place in the Last 16 round.

UPDATE: After the match Ronnie refused to leave his dressing room and go to his press conference, this being mandatory for each player. World Snooker will be taking disciplinary actions against the five-time world champion.

At the other table, John Higgins holds a 7-2 advantage over Welshman Ryan Day after their first session.
