The Shanghai Masters Q - Day 2

Wohoooo, what a crazy day at the Sheffield Academy! The second round of the Shanghai Masters Q was pure madness...but in a good way! ;)

We’ve had very tight scores, great matches and wonderful breakes over 100 points: Jimmy Michie (100), Matthew Couch (105), Tony Drago (107), David Morris (109), the Chinese Liu Song (114), the Thai (with an impossible name to pronounce or to write...thank God for copy-paste!:P) Thanawat Tirapaipongboon (114) and Liam Highfield with an amazing 138.

The Brazilian Igor Figueiredo made another break through by winning 5-4 over David Gilbert and saving a good spot in the third round when he’ll be playing with Fergal O'Brien from Ireland.
It’s interesting to see that five matches ended with a 5-4 score and just one with a 5-0. This shouts that what we see here is an important competition and the youngsters are giving their best for a place in the September tournament in China. And, if we think about it, they are not to be blamed, for they worked very, very hard to get until this point and it is only normal to want more. So bring it on, bro! :))

One of the most dramatic matches in this round was perhaps the one between Jimmy White and Liam Highfield (5-3). They started with an equal of 1-1 but Liam put himself in front with 4-1. "The Whirlwind" didn’t give up so easily though, so he changed the score to 4-3; still in the end Liam was the one who claimed the victory by winning the last frame. It’s amazing to see Jimmy’s comeback and his determination, for as we all know these are hard times for him. I can only applaud him and hope that the next time he will win. What can I say? One "must" love a legend! :P

If you have the time...and the patience :P to look at the scores for every match, you will definitely see why I say that this round was a crazy one.

So, I expect to see a crazier third round with spectacular breaks, all in the good spirit of snooker. Today we’ll see Martin Gould and the winner of the Shanghai Masters first season, Dominic Dale in action.
See you tomorrow for another round of genuine snooker! ;)
