World Championship qualifiers 2011 - Day 2

Though a very simple day for snooker (or so it seemed) the first two matches from the second stage of this year’s World Championship qualifiers brought some interesting results. It was nice to see Reanne Evans so powerful and mighty although in the end she was defeated by her opponent Sam Baird, as well as it was nice to see Stephen Rowlings continuing his good run and moving pass Jak Jones.

Sam Baird was the one to open the score in the match played against the Lady of Snooker, but after that first frame Reanne stormed in as to take over the next three frames, winning the last one by being just one point ahead (68-67). Sam pulled one back with a bit of help from a beautiful break of 95 and one more as to draw at 3-3, but Reanne was too eager to win her first match so he took the lead once more in this battle. Unfortunately that was going to be her last time also, for
Sam started to win one frame after another until at 8-5 Reanne was given another chance to win a frame...but it was a bit too late, as Sam was in the mood for snooker and for victory, so from an 8-6 lead he took the score at 10-6 final result.

He is trough to the next round, where he shall face "Double T", also known as Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon - this should be interesting to follow. :-P
Like I’ve said before, regardless of the fact that Reanne lost the possibility to meet with a very strong and dangerous Thai, her performance was spectacular and I’m sure one of these days we shall see her kicking some male player`s ass :-)))

Jones and Evans left the competition
The second match of the day was the battle between Jak Jones and Stephen Rowlings and it was a very entertaining one I must say. Stephen was the one who broke the ice by hitting in runs of 41 and 40, Jak took the next frame, but Stephen fought back and went 4-1 ahead of his opponent to set the standard as high as possible. So little Jak had no other choice than to try and win some more frames, still he only cashed one. And then it happened! The first century break of these qualifiers - Rowlings hit a marvelous 108 as to go 5-2 up! Such a blast for Preston’s boy! :-)
But his "winning mood" didn’t stop him there for he won two more frames and only "let" Jones to cash the 11th one (54-51). After that, there were all his. Final score:10-3 A very well deserved victory! Top class!
