Players Tour Championship Event Two 2011 - the qualifiers (round 1)

To qualify or not to qualify?
Everything has been set up for the players to start their journey in the lovely South West Snooker Academy from Gloucester so the first day of the qualifiers went pretty well. Constant updates have been provided by the restless Janie Watkins who reported directly from Gloucester, but also by World Snooker via Twitter (a initiative that I personally salute, since the scoring system is only working for when the main PTC 2 event will actually start, meaning on Monday morning).

It's been a really great day for the "Lady of Snooker", Reanne Evans succeeding to hammer the only and only Michael Judge 4-1 in order to book herself a place for the second round of the qualifiers, but also for Marc Davis, whose rain of breaks (67, 52, 59, 63) have brought him a 4-2 advantage over James Buck.

A lot of deciders happened during the first day of the preliminary rounds, Michael Wild ending his battle with Farakh Aljaib on 4-3, Mitchell Mann suffering an ingrate defeat in front of Zak Surety, the powerful Anda Zhang found himself unlucky enough as to lose to George Marter by the same scoreline, while a 55 from Joel Walker was ending Stephen Ellis' premature run on the classical 4-3.

Both Kyren Wilson and Ben Harrison have hit the road with a perfect 4-0 whitewash, Kyren beating the Scot Jonathan Fulcher (and hitting a great 97 in the process), while Ben eliminated James Cahill from the snooker race.
Unfortunately, Liam Monk found out that August 6th wasn't his lucky day, the player hitting an 87 and a perfect 107 only to lose 2-4 in front of Chris Norbury, while Nick Pearce had to pull out of the event, due to a leg injury.

Runs of 97, 82 and 59 have secured Ian Glover a place into the second qualifying round as he crashed Damian Wilks 4-0, while a series of 64 and 69 have done the trick for Gary Wilson who took on Ryan Causton.
Matthew Day got a bye to the next round due to the fact that his opponent, Andy Lee withdrew from the event and now he will face the Scotsman Sean Riach. Oh, wait he pulled out of the event as well! So, that leaves Day to face .... hm .... let's see, the one and only Rory McLeod. Who's the lucky boy now, huh? :-P
