2016 World Championship (Day 7) - Fu gets 1st QFs spot
Marco Fu has become the first player to reach this year's Betfred World Championship quarter-finals after beating Anthony McGill 13-9.
Fu held a 5-3 advantage over his opponent after their first session thanks to top breaks of 87 and 54 and continued on the same note by adding breaks of 102 and 51 to end the second at 9-7 up.
As the last session started, McGill hurried up and hit a break of 97 to reduce the deficit, but the next three frames were being easily cashed out by the Hong Kong player with a bit of help from breaks of 55 and 100.
Scotland's McGill managed to win just one more frame before Fu wrapped it up with a top of 69 for a clean and honest 13-9 victory and a place in the quarter-finals.
Mark Williams and Michael Holt disputed their first two snooker encounters at the end of which the two-time world champion is 10-6 up, hence needing just three more frames to get his quarter-finals place too.
"Captain" Ali Carter looks pretty good after ending the first session against Alan McManus in the leading chair, 5-3 and the second one at 9-7 up. A bit of a deja-vu?
However, not the same can be said about the 2014 world champion, Mark Selby who is currently stuck at 4-4 against qualifier Sam Baird and hasn't had the best of days "in court".

Sam Baird v Mark Selby
2.30pm
