Some really good news has hit our office, as Eurosport and Quest team up for broadcasting the Home Nations snooker events series.
Below you have the full press release.
Eurosport and Quest cue up LIVE Home Nations snooker as inaugural series begins with the English Open in Manchester
- Inaugural Home Nations series gets underway with the English Open in Manchester on Monday 10th October
- Free-to-air channel Quest to broadcast the English Open, Northern Ireland Open and Scottish Open
- Eurosport will show all four Home Nations series events LIVE and in High Definition
The inaugural Home Nations series will be
LIVE in its entirety on Eurosport in high definition, with free-to-air channel
Quest broadcasting live action and highlights from three events including the
English Open.
The series comprises of four ranking
tournaments, three of which are brand new events with the English Open (10-16
Oct), Northern Ireland Open (14-20 Nov) and Scottish Open (12-18 Dec) joining
the already existing Welsh Open (13-19 Feb) on the World Snooker calendar.
Each tournament will feature 128 players in
a flat draw and a massive £1million bonus - the largest single prize in snooker
history - is on offer for any player who manages to win all four events.
The English Open gets the series underway
on Monday 10th October at Event City in Manchester LIVE on Eurosport
1 and Quest from 12.45pm. Daily onsite studio coverage will be presented by
Andy Goldstein with expert analysis from Neal Foulds and snooker legends Ronnie
“The Rocket” O’Sullivan and Jimmy “The Whirlwind” White, who will both be
competing in the event. Commentary comes from David Hendon, Mike Hallett and
Philip Studd, with Neal and Jimmy also taking stints behind the mic.
The afternoon matches and both sessions of
the final will be simulcast live on Eurosport 1 and Quest. The evening sessions
will be live on Eurosport 1 with highlights aired the next day on Quest before
each afternoon session.
Talking about the unique £1 million bonus,
five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan said; “The £1 million bonus for
winning all four tournaments is obviously something which has got people
talking, and rightly so – it’s a life changing amount of money. It’s going to
be hugely difficult for anyone to do it, but that’s what makes it special.”
Jimmy White agrees; “It’s great to have
four tournaments in the UK, and if there is one player who wins them all they
receive a £1m bonus so it’s a big step for snooker. It’ll be very tough but
nothing’s impossible and I think it really shows that snooker is heading in the
right direction; there’s definitely exciting times ahead.”
In a special tribute to some of snooker’s
greats, each of the tournament’s trophies have been named after a legend from
that respective country; The Steve Davis Trophy for the English Open, the Alex
Higgins Trophy for the Northern Ireland Open, the Stephen Hendry trophy for the
Scottish Open, and the Ray Reardon Trophy for the Welsh Open. Between them they
have accumulated 21 World Championship titles.
