Cao Yupeng moves into the last round
The penultimate day of the Australian Open qualifiers brought the first big surprise, the Thai player Thepchaiya Un-Nooh being eliminated by Matthew Selt with a 5-3 scoreline. Still, for his fellow country-man Thanawat Tirapongpainboon, or simply "Double T", the race is still on as he managed to beat Peter Lines by a tight 5-4 scoreline.

After what Cao Yupeng became the only Chinese player to survive the second day of qualifying rounds, the third one saw not just him getting by into the last round after a 5-2 with Mike Dunn, but also Xiao Guodong, who obtained a hard fought 5-4 victory over Kurt Maflin, and Liu Chuang who beat Pankaj Advani 5-2.

A very interesting cue-crossings happened between two heavy names of the snooker industry, Alan McManus and Tony Drago and as expected the snooker gladiators ended up on a decider, that was proudly won by the Scottish player.

Things started pretty good for Dave Harold who beat the youngster Sam Baird by 5-4, but also for Nigel Bond who saw off Michael Wasley 5-2 and Barry Pinches who continued his good run with a 5-1 victory over Ben Wooollaston.

Not very good news for Steve Davis' fans though, the player nicknamed "The Nugget" being whitewashed by Michael Wild 5-0.
