Players Tour Championship Event 9 (2011) - Day 1 (the qualifiers)
A lot of players have
gathered in Belgium's Antwerp to take part in
the ninth PTC event of this season. Many names that seem impossible to
pronounce have already provoked some pretty amazing upsets, so for the next
days I'm sure the battles of cues will continue to become tougher and tougher.The qualifiers started yesterday part of the matches taking place at the venue and part of them at the club (that's how many players we have).
It was nice to see the Dutchman Roy Stolk, a player whose cue action, I'm proudly to say, I admired a year ago in Bucharest in the EBSA Championship's final. Roy started his PTC journey by hammering Danny Lathouwers and Alex Davis 4-1, but sadly lost the third match, the one that could have sent him in the Main Event Round One, 2-4 in front of the Welshman Gareth Allen.
Although we've kind of got used to see both Allan Taylor and Ben Harrison winning their way into the PTCs, this time it only happened for one of them. Taylor managed to win 4-1 over Franky Debaene and crash Greg Davis 4-0, while Harrison even though kneeled down Brian Beekers 4-0 saw himself losing the decider against Ryan Causton.
Both Zhang Anda and Chen Zhe will perform for the next days in Belgium, after Anda's victories of 4-0 against Pierre Dethier and Reanne Evans, Chen applying the same scoreline in front of Kristof de Bruyn and Patrick Geysels.
Joe Delaney grabbed a place on the main event also after defeating Chris Maesschalck and Phil O'Kane 4-0, Stephen Craigie booked himself a place by scoring 4-0 in front of Juriaan Van Den Nieuwenhuizen and Yannick Poulain, while the player with the most musical name on tour, Robbie Williams whitewashed Luc De Bock 4-0 and beat Michael Wasley 4-2 for a comfy place next to the other two players.
Among those who will try to delight us with their snooker skills we also have a Pink Army’s member, Kyren Wilson, the lad obtaining victories of 4-1 against Wim Andries and 4-2 in front of Chris Hendy.
But it wasn't the best of days for every player, Chris Norbury losing the final battle, 4-0 with Jamie O'Neill, the same happening to Sean O'Sullivan who was defeated 4-3 by Martin Ball, but also to Shane Castle, who after beating Joris Mass 4-1, lost to Justin Astley 4-2.
