Players Tour Championship Event 9 (2011) - Day 2

O'Sullivan found his way into the Last 16
Antwerp can be pleased by how well the second day of the PTC Event 9 evolved. A lot of close matches, twisted situations and genuine snooker - that was the recipe that brought the audience into the arena the kept the viewers glued to their TV screens (or computers' screens, that depends).

No more than four PTC winners reached the third round, but unfortunately only half of them qualified for a place in the Last 16.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the proud owner of PTC 1 and PTC 7 trophies found no difficulty in booking a place in the next round after performing two great whitewashes (4-0 against Anthony Hamilton and Andrew Norman) and hammering Adam Wicheard 4-1, while PTC 6 and PTC 8 champion, the Australian Neil Robertson, followed his footsteps by taking down one player after another. First he crashed Mario Wehrmann 4-0, then he defeated Cao Yupeng 4-2, only to end the day with a hard fought 4-3 by playing Kurt Maflin.

Higginson - almost there, but not quite yet
But as I said before, not every player that has a PTC title in his bag made it to the Last 16. This was the case of Andrew Higginson that although had a good run lost his last match to Graeme Dott 4-3, but also the one of Ben Woollaston, who was beat 4-1 by Scotland's Alan McManus.

The Irish fans can be happy as David Morris grabbed a place in the next round for the very first time since this season's PTCs have started. With a 4-3 against Stuart Carrington and Barry Hawkins and a 4-2 in front of Peter Lines, Morris booked himself a snooker meeting with Jack Lisowski, whose victories of 4-2 over Marcus Campbell, 4-1 over Liu Song and 4-2 over Andrew Pagett partially erased the disappointment of missing to qualify for the UK Championship.

For the second time in the Last 16, the 22-year old lad from Wales, Michael White is definitely on the right track. Although he started his journey by getting a bye due to Robin Hull's withdrawal, the 4-3 he obtained in front of Stephen Maguire and the 4-2 scoreline that used to beat Steve Davis are valid proves he's on for the kill.

David Morris, for the first time into the Last 16
Stephen Lee and Graeme Dott will also delight us with their snooker techniques in the next round, Lee managing to crash Stephen Craigie 4-0, to win a very tough decider against Stephen Hendry 4-3 to finally end his day by taking down the Thai Passakorn Suwannawat by 4-2.

Meanwhile, Dott used the same tight result of 4-3 against all his opponents, Peter Ebdon, Liang Wenbo and Andrew Higginson, in order to secure a special date with his fellow-country Alan McManus in the Last 16.
